Kyle Schwarber powered the Philadelphia Phillies to a 19-4 rout of the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night, smashing four home runs to become the fourth player in franchise history and the 21st in MLB to achieve the feat. Schwarber went 4-for-6 with a Phillies-record nine RBIs, taking over the National League home run lead with a career-high 49, just one shy of Seattle’s Cal Raleigh for the major league lead. He also tops MLB with 119 RBIs this season. Mike Schmidt had been the last Phillies player to hit four homers in a game, doing so in 1976.

Schwarber’s night began with a solo shot in the first inning, added a two-run homer in the fourth, followed with a three-run blast in the fifth, and crushed another three-run drive in the seventh. A bid for a fifth homer ended with a flyout in the eighth off infielder Vidal Bruján. The Phillies tied a franchise record with seven home runs on the night, as J.T. Realmuto, Max Kepler and Bryce Harper also went deep. Aaron Nola (3-7), in his third start since returning from injury, overcame a rough three-run first to pitch six innings for the win.

Atlanta briefly led 3-0 on hits from Michael Harris II and Matt Olson’s homer, but Cal Quantrill (4-12) was rocked for nine runs and four long balls in just over three innings. The Phillies seized control with a five-run first and a six-run fourth, capped by Schwarber’s second homer and Alec Bohm’s two-run double.

Schwarber’s historic performance marked the third four-homer game in MLB this season, joining Nick Kurtz and Eugenio Suárez - the most ever in a single year.
