Kroger mulls merger with Albertsons in deal worth $24.6 billion to form giant grocery chain

Kroger is planning to merge with Albertsons for $24.6 billion, as the merger of the two will create the largest grocery store chain in the US.

Kroger, the largest grocery supply operator in the US, is planning to merge with Albertsons. Both of them overlap in various markets. Up to 35 stores will be spun off into a separate company with their tie-up. Concerning the hike in food prices, Kroger on Friday made an announcement that it would reinvest around half a billion dollars of cost savings to reduce the food prices for its customers.

Albertsons is the US' second-largest supermarket company, with 290,000 employees and almost 2,300 stores, including Vons and Safeway. Kroger’s earnings from May-July were 90 cents per share, 12.5 per cent better than May-July of 2021. They are aiming for next year's earnings to be in the range of $3.95 to $4.05 per share.
