KPop Demon Hunters 2: Will Netflix announce a sequel? Here’s what the cast and crew said

KPop Demon Hunters premiered on June 20, 2025, on Netflix, and following its release, the film garnered more than 50 million views and became a massive hit. The animated fantasy film follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) as a chart-topping K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X.

The film shows how the trio secretly use their magical singing powers to protect humans from demonic threats, including a rival boy band of demons, the Saja Boys. According to What’s on Netflix, K-Pop Demon Hunters managed to amass an impressive 56.1 million views since its premiere.

The movie entered Netflix’s top 10 in 93 countries. Meanwhile, the film's album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and then climbed to No. 3, making it the highest-charting animated soundtrack of 2025. The massive response to the film has fans and cast predicting that the online video streaming platform will announce a sequel soon.


In June 2025, co-director Chris Appelhans told Shine On Media that there are so many possibilities and there are still so many unanswered questions.

“Because we had to pack so much into 85 minutes—it's a pretty big idea and a lot of pieces—there are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story,” co-director Chris Appelhans told Shine On Media in June 2025, Appelhans said.

Will there be a KPop Demon Hunters 2?

There is still no announcement made by Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation about the sequel. However, co-director Maggie Kang told Variety that she and Appelhans have more stories to tell. She said that many more areas have not yet been explored.

"We’ve set up so much for potential backstory. There are a lot of questions left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much movie you can tell in 85 minutes," she further stated.

"This was Rumi’s story, and we have backstories for Zoey and Mira—ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected them. It just wasn’t the movie for those stories," Kang added.

What has the cast said about the sequel?

Cho, Hong, and Yoo are eagerly waiting to reprise their roles as the voices of HUNTR/X. "I've already told Maggie [Kang] and Chris [Appelhans] that there has to be a follow-up," Yoo told Mama's Geeky in June 2025.

"I would totally do it again. I'll be honestly a little bummed if we can't do a sequel." Cho added that she "would be heartbroken if there isn't a sequel."
