Hart left his duffel bag in his room at The Dominick Hotel around 12:30 pm on September 5, only to return an hour later and find his watch case missing, authorities said. The case held three watches and a bracelet worth $185,000, and Hart reported the theft on September 8.
No arrests have been made, and police say they have no suspect information yet.
The incident, only recently disclosed, has raised new questions about security at even the most exclusive hotels. The Dominick, a 46-story luxury hotel-condominium in Hudson Square where SoHo, TriBeCa, and the West Village meet, was formerly known as Trump SoHo until 2017.
Despite those credentials, the theft unfolded in broad daylight within a narrow, 60-minute window, prompting concerns about how such a crime could occur inside an upscale establishment.
Hart, known for his relentless style of play on the court, holds the Knicks’ franchise record for the most triple-doubles in a single season. He joined the team in 2023 after playing college basketball at Villanova and has since become a pivotal part of New York’s roster. According to ClutchPoints, his net worth in 2025 is estimated at $12 million.
The Dominick has not publicly commented on the theft. Meanwhile, police continue to search for leads.
