King Charles, others congratulate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un

As North Korea celebrates its 75th foundation day, its leader Kim Jong-un has been congratulated by King Charles, the Swedish king, and other leaders.

King Charles has congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the anniversary of the country's foundation. According to North Korea's government-controlled news agency KCNA, the king sent a message that read “As the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea celebrate their National Day, I send my good wishes for the future.”


Queen Elizabeth congratulated in 2021


Earlier in 2021, Queen Elizabeth sent a similar message. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said at that time that it was the “standard practice” for national days across the world and “has been done before”. A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said at that time that like the previous years, Her Majesty The Queen had sent a message to the people of the DPRK on the occasion of their National Day.



North Korea gets messages from others


North Korean state newspaper Rodong Simnun said that on the 75th anniversary of the nation, Kim Jong-un received messages from a number of heads of state, including Singapore, Nepal, Bahrain, and Mozambique. It also said that Swedish King Carl Gustaf XVI said in a message that he wished to convey his best wishes for the future of the people on the occasion of the Anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

North celebrates National Day


North Korea held a midnight parade in the capital Pyongyang to mark the anniversary, attended by thousands of people, military bigwigs, communist party leaders, and government officials. Vice Premier Liu Guozhong led the Chinese delegation that attended the ceremony. Russia sent a military song and dance group.
