'Killer Sally' on Netflix explains why Sally McNeil shot her bodybuilding champion husband
In this true-crime documentary series, which was directed by Nanette Burnstein, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her work, we learn about the circumstances that led up to McNeil's murder of her husband Ray in 1995.

The atmosphere between them got angry and toxic very quickly. McNeil said Ray struck her in the face three days after the wedding. Shantina and John Lowden's mother also said that Ray often choked her and even crushed her nose in front of the children. McNeil said that Ray took anabolic steroids because he was "insecure" about his physique, even though Ray had won the title of Mr California in 1991.
McNeil also had many violent outbursts at various points throughout this time. In 1990, she was kicked out of the National Physique Committee for a year after she brutally assaulted a woman, she suspected was having an affair with her husband.
According to Burnstein, it is unclear whether or not steroid use had a significant role in the demise of the couple's marriage.
