Brandon Blackstock, the former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, has died at 48 after a private battle with melanoma, his family confirmed in an obituary.

The music manager, who spent the past several years living in Montana, was remembered for his work ethic, devotion to his four children, and the life he built with his partner, Brittney Marie Jones.

“Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,” the obituary read.

Jones, according to her LinkedIn profile, worked as Clarkson’s assistant from 2016 to 2018 and later for Blackstock’s cattle operation. Public records indicate she moved to Montana in 2020, the same year Clarkson filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage. Their split was finalized in 2022, with Clarkson retaining the couple’s ranch while Blackstock remained in Montana.

Blackstock’s obituary did not reference his marriage to Clarkson or his earlier marriage to Melissa Ashworth. Instead, it focused on his roles as a father to Savannah, Seth, River, and Remington, describing them as “the center of his life.”

Jones’ father also paid tribute on Facebook, calling Blackstock his daughter’s “soulmate” and writing, “I considered him my son. We’re sure going to miss your funny humor. RIP hoss!”

While Blackstock had moved forward with his personal life, Clarkson stayed connected during his illness. Multiple outlets, including People, reported she paused production of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and canceled several Las Vegas residency dates earlier this year to be with him and their children. “When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” a source told People. “She’s been devastated for the kids.”

The Silver Bow County Coroner’s Office confirmed Blackstock died last Thursday under hospice care in Butte, Montana, surrounded by family.

A celebration of life will be held August 17. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Montana Stockgrowers Foundation in his memory.
