Kato had been balancing the demands of producing Blue Exorcist while undergoing hospital visits and treatment. However, she has now reached a point where she requires a genuine rest period. The series has been on pause since August 2024.

The hiatus will end on November 4, 2024, when Blue Exorcist is expected to return to Shonen Jump magazine.
