Katie Porter announces 2024 Senate campaign for Dianne Feinstein’s seat

Rep. Katie Porter announced her 2024 campaign for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat on Tuesday. While Feinstein is yet to officially announce her retirement, Porter unveiled her plans to contest for her seat in the upper house. In a tweet announcing her candidacy, the Democratic incumbent said that California “needs a warrior in the Senate” in order to stand up to “special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy”.


It is to mention that POrter has previously acknowledged that she was considering a bid for the open Senate seat in California, a Democrat-led state. Even though Feinstein has not officially announced her retirement, it is widely expected that she would do so in the forthcoming months. However, with her Tuesday announcement, Porter made it evident that she would not be waiting for the 89-year-old’s formal decision.


Rep. Katie Porter has just wrapped up a tough reelection campaign in which he defeated Republican Scott Baugh by just more than 3% points. As per reports, in the US, Porter has maintained an image of being an outstanding fundraiser. As of November 2022, her campaign already had $7.7 million and raised over $25 million through her reelection bid last year.

Apart from Democrat Katie Porter, Rep Adam Schiff has already expressed interest in acquiring Feinstein’s Senate seat in 2024. Reps. Barbara Lee and Ro Khanna, both members of California’s House delegation are also reportedly viewed as potential contenders. Khanna has previously said in a statement that he would make a decision about the 2024 Senate campaign in the next few months.
