Karoline Leavitt's focus on new media

The new White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pledged to “work diligently” to restore the press passes that were “wrongly revoked” by the Biden administration, reported The Daily Beast. According to Leavitt, the Biden administration favoured established mainstream outlets like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and major cable networks.

Leavitt, the youngest-ever White House press secretary, highlighted that new media voices and outlets that hadn’t been represented in the briefing room would now be included, as per the report. She expressed her commitment to broadening access and welcomed a diverse range of content creators to join the press briefings.

According to The Daily Beast, a new "media" seat was designated in the briefing room. It was occupied by Axios co-founder and Beltway veteran Mike Allen during Tuesday’s debut session.

First action as the new White House press secretary

Leavitt's first order of business was an update on the New Jersey drone situation. She clarified that they weren’t UFOs but FAA-authorized flights and said there was no threat, reported The Daily Beast.

The new press secretary also expressed the Trump administration’s frustration with traditional media, criticizing legacy outlets for spreading misinformation about the president and his family, reported The Daily Beast. She emphasized that the White House would not tolerate such reporting and would call out inaccuracies when necessary.

Leavitt pointed out the shift in how news is consumed.
