Kansas Election Results 2022: All you need to know

Kansas is a busy state today as it is going to soon announce the results of the US midterm elections in Kansas for 2022. The state is going to elect a governor, a senator, an attorney general and four people to the House of Representatives.

The biggest race is the fight between the incumbent Democrat Governor Laura Kelly and her challenger Republican Derek Schmidt. A constitutional amendment sought by Republicans of the Kansas Legislature would limit the governor's power.

For the U.S. Senate, Senator Jerry Moran is standing for re-election against Democrat Mark Holland. With the new district boundary kicking in, four U.S. House seats are having elections with new people electing new representatives.


Kansas will be electing a new treasurer and new secretary of state. For attorney general's post, Democrat Chris Mann and Republican Kris Kobach are contesting polls. The latter is planning a political comeback with this election.



Six out of seven judges will be elected for the Kansas Supreme Court. That would decide how far lawmakers could go to control abortion rights. Kansas had voted in favour of abortion rights and became an abortion destination despite being a Republican state.

Justice system is allegedly weak in Kansas, and the police department has been under scrutiny for decades after being accused of racism and victimisation. The alleged weakness allowed Lamonte McIntyre to be jailed for 23 years on false charges, media reports said. The arrest of Roger Golubski, a Kansas City Police Detective, brought to light the rape and murder of two women in the 1990s, the reports said.
