Police confirmed the situation began when a person alerted an off-duty officer after hearing what sounded like gunshots around 9:10 pm CT inside the park. Due to the size of the crowd, KCPD and surrounding agencies responded quickly. While on the scene, officers also had to break up multiple disturbances involving juveniles engaged in fights.
The amusement park posted that they are working with the Kansas City police, and “the park will remain closed this evening.”
A video from the location soon circulated online, showing numerous police vehicles and personnel coordinating the evacuation.
The incident occurred on the first night of Worlds of Fun’s Halloween Haunt, the park’s annual event leading up to Halloween on October 31. Worlds of Fun is located at 4545 Worlds of Fun Ave, Kansas City, Missouri, just off I-435 near the Missouri River.
