Britt Reid, the 37-year-old son of Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, pleads guilty to the crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl and three others. Reid, the former assistant coach of City Chiefs, was intoxicated while driving when the crash happened. Following the accident, Kansas City Chiefs, the professional football team, will provide lifetime financial and medical support to the victims.

When and where the accident involving the former Assistant Coach of Kansas City Chiefs happened?

The accident occurred on February 4, 2021, at Interstate 435 in Kansas City, Missouri, when Reid’s pick-up truck Dodge Ram going at the speed of 84mph, struck two standstill cars on the entrance ramp. The test conducted immediately after the accident showed Reid’s blood alcohol concentration level at 0.113, whereas, the legal limit in Missouri stands at 0.08. The police officer arriving at the crash scene confirmed that Brit’s eyes were bloodshot.

What is the plea agreement by Britt Reid?

Reid’s attorney J.R Hobbs said that he takes responsibility for his conduct and continues to be regretful for his actions, hoping that the plea would make sense to justice to those who are affected. Under the plea arrangement, Britt could be given maximum four-year imprisonment, although the judge can be lenient and settle it for less than this. If a jury had handled the case, he could have faced up to seven-year imprisonment.

However, the attorney representing the victim’s family said they disagreed with the plea and were outraged by the crime saying that Reid was a previous offender who had put a 5-year-old girl in a coma. Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs reached a confidential financial agreement that proposes long-term financial stability and world-class medical care to Ariel. Brit Reid will be sentenced on October 28.
