Glenda Glover, the President of Tennesse State University, expressed excitement over the first graduate from HBCU (Kamala Harris) becoming Vice President, joining the ceremony. She stated that the commencement is a special day in the students' lives, and having a guest speaker as the Vice President makes the event even more special for the students and their families. The mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, Randall Woodfin, will also be present at the commencement ceremony.

Kamala Harris has been visiting several HBCUs since her time in the office. Her visits included her alma mater, Howard University.

She has announced a resource guide and grants for historically Black universities and colleges targeted for bomb threats. HBCUs have received initiatives and resources from investments of $5.8 billion from the Biden administration since it took to office.


On May 28, the President of The United States, Joe Biden, will be delivering the commencement address 2022 at his alma mater, the University of Delaware, announced the White House on Tuesday.

In the first year of her time in the office, Kamala Harris addressed the commencement of 2021 of the U.S Naval Academy. Emmanuel Freeman, the spokesperson for the school, stated that the public is free to attend the ceremony, which takes place at Hale Stadium at 9 a.m.

Glenda Glover, TSU President, also stated that the students would be happy and appreciate that both the Mayor and Vice President are graduates from the HBCU, which is a testament to the students' caliber in HBCUs and TSUs produce.

According to the school, around 900 students will be receiving their degrees across different disciplines. The ceremonies will strictly follow the protocols that have been set in place for Covid-19.
