Kamala Harris' past statements on domestic abuse resurface following allegations against her husband, Doug Emhoff
Kamala Harris' record of condemning domestic abuse has come under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that her husband, Doug Emhoff, slapped an ex-girlfriend in 2012.

As the two waited in the valet line after an event at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2012, the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, a 59-year-old Hollywood lawyer, struck his then-flavour, a prosperous New York attorney, in the face so hard, that she spun around, three unnamed friends of the woman, as quoted in a report by the New York Post.
Critics of Harris quickly capitalized on the alleged abuse, which they said was caused by Emhoff's misguided jealousy that he thought his beau was flirting with another man. They cited years in which the vice president asserted that she believes women who have experienced sexual assault.

Democrats' scepticism of abuse allegations had reached a breaking point in 2018 during the divisive Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings for the United States Supreme Court.
Harris stated without hesitation that she accepted Christine Blasey Ford's claims that Brett Kavanaugh had pushed her during a high school dance, and she circulated rumors that the judge had previously raped a woman in the backseat of a vehicle.
Harris, who founded Time's Up in 2018, has been accused of encouraging abuse, harassment, marginalisation, and underrepresentation. In May 2017, she discussed the importance of taking crimes against women and children more seriously, such as human trafficking, domestic violence, and child abuse.

Harris' campaign image has been slammed for her early 2020 attack on Joe Biden, who was accused of sexual abuse by former Senate assistant Tara Reade. Harris has since defended the Violence Against Women Act, promising to continue working for women's safety and well-being.
