In a lengthy post, Moore said that it was a “great shock for me to learn that my first book, Freckleface Strawberry, has been banned by the Trump Administration from schools run by the Department of Defense.”

Moore said she was "stunned" at the decision since she is a "proud" graduate from the Frankfurt American High School. Her father was a Vietnam veteran and spent his career in the US Army.

She went on to add that it was "galling" to find out that children like her, who have grown up with a parent in the service, will not have access to the book. Also, she wondered what was so controversial about the book that it was “banned by the US government.”

"I am truly saddened and never thought I would see this in a country where freedom of speech and expression is a constitutional right," she added.

But has Julianne Moore’s book been banned?

A memo circulated by the Department of Defense stated that it was examining library books, which were “potentially related to gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology topics,” The Guardian reported.

This came after the access to library books got suspended to conduct a review. As per the memo, a “small number of items” have been identified by the department and kept under “further review”.

According to The Guardian, Freckleface Strawberry is among the books that have been caught up in the blanket review. But it remains unclear whether it was selected for withdrawal or further review.
