Star first baseman Josh Naylor, who hits free agency at the end of the season, is likely to stay in Seattle with the Mariners set to sign him in an over $60 million free agency deal, according to media reports. Mariners, who added Naylor in a blockbuster move from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, would love to re-sign the slugger but according to Sports Illustrated it's highly unlikely that he would get paid like a superstar on the open market. It would likely be something higher than the three-year, $60 million deal, Seattle Times quoted MLB sources, since Naylor is just 28.

According to Seattle Times, Naylor, who has been a star performer all through the season and has been traded five times in his career, will certainly test the market to maximise his value after becoming a free agent for the first time in his career post this season. And it is quite logical for Naylor to find stability - at this point in time - and a place where he can play for a good amount of time.

The upcoming free-agent class of first basemen looks not that great with Pete Alonso holds an opt-out clause with the Mets that he’s expected to use, the Dodgers have a club option on Max Muncy for 2026, the Brewers are likely to decline their mutual option with Rhys Hoskins, and Paul Goldschmidt will hit the market at age 39.

With the kind of form Naylor is in, he is expected to draw significant interest, especially from big-market teams like the Yankees and Mets, depending on Alonso’s decision, reported Seattle Times.

While it won’t be easy for the Mariners to retain him, they have the financial power to make an outstanding offer if they choose. Ultimately, how much Seattle values Naylor will determine his future.
