Marking his third consecutive victory, Josh Kelly has been crowned the British light-middleweight champion. The Sunderland-born secured a unanimous points victory over Troy Williamson, with the score of 118-110, 119-109, and 119-111. Notably, it also marked the first-ever loss of Williamson, who was making his second defence on the title. The match was played at Newcastle Arena and went on for 12 rounds.
Kelly dominated the match from round one as his fast pace did not allow defending champion Williamson to land shots right. Josh Kelly started incredibly fast with the help of his impeccable footwork and threw some lightning punches to Williamson on multiple occasions. Although Williamson got a big chance in the fourth round as a big right hand landed, Kelly was quick to grow into the encounter.
However, Kelly dominated all other rounds comfortably. Kelly showed immense skill with confidence throughout the match. And later, it became clearer that to defend the title of light-middleweight champion, Williamson had only one option, which was knockout. But, as it was clear from round one, the judges scored the bout in favour of Josh Kelly.
