In its debut weekend, "John Wick: Chapter 4" dominated the box office, raking in an impressive $73.5 million. The latest instalment in the action franchise received positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, outperforming its predecessors. The original film debuted with $14 million in 2014, while the second and third films earned $30.4 million and $56.8 million in their respective opening weekends.

In all 71 markets where it was released, "John Wick: Chapter 4" debuted at No. 1 and earned a total of $64 million at the international box office. The film's global earnings stand at $137.5 million, despite its production cost of over $100 million, the highest in the franchise. David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research called it a "superb opening," noting the impressive growth of each "John Wick" sequel. Despite its lengthy runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes, the R-rated film received an "A" CinemaScore and appealed mostly to males (69%) and those over 25 years old (70%).

Lionsgate reports that only nine franchises in the last four decades have set opening weekend records with their fourth installment, and only five have seen each successive movie improve on the previous one's box office results. The "John Wick" series, however, is an exception. The first film earned $86.1 million, while the second grossed $174.3 million, and the third, "Parabellum," is the highest-grossing with $328.3 million globally. Lionsgate's motion picture group president, Joe Drake, calls the franchise an "anomaly" and hints at a fifth instalment and another spinoff in the works. This March has been notable at the box office, with "Scream" and "Creed" also achieving opening weekend records in their respective series, aside from "Shazam! Fury of the Gods."

Box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian notes that March 2023 has been a remarkable month for movies. However, Warner Bros. and DC's "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is struggling with sales dropping by 69% in its second weekend, earning just $9.7 million from 4,071 theatres. Meanwhile, Paramount's "Scream VI" earned $8.4 million in its third weekend, while Warner Bros.'s "Creed III" grossed $8.36 million in its fourth weekend and Sony's "65" collected $3.2 million in its third week. Despite a lacklustre performance from some superhero movies like "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," Lionsgate's "John Wick: Chapter 4" has had a successful opening weekend, earning $137.5 million globally.
