Democratic Senator of Pennsylvania John Fetterman was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after "feeling lightheaded" at a Senate Democratic retreat in Washington, D.C., according to his office.
“Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stroke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation," the official statement read. It added that the senator is in "good spirits and talking with his staff and family."
Nonetheless, Fetterman's health became a major campaign issue, with his Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz, frequently questioning Fetterman's fitness to serve in the Senate.
Fetterman admitted to utilising a closed captioning device to read questions during interviews and a late October debate with Oz, but emphasised that he had been open about his health issues and was improving every day.

During his encounter with Oz, Fetterman's difficulties in auditory processing were noticeable as he stumbled in his speech and had difficulty responding to questions. Nevertheless, he managed to triumph over Oz, who had the support of former President Donald Trump, in the November election. This victory over Oz resulted in the expansion of the Democratic majority in the Senate from 50 to 51 seats. Fetterman was present at President Biden's State of the Union address on Tuesday evening.
