John Cena’s WWE feud with Dwayne Johnson between 2011 and 2013 seems to be quite popular. Cena has finally opened up about it. The actor has said that he was “short-sighted and selfish” at that time.

During the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s May 18 episode, Cena said that he “really messed up” by engaging in a long feud with Johnson when he had returned to WWE after leaving nearly a decade ago to look for a full-time career in acting.

Now, both Johnson and Cena are big Hollywood stars. Cena is playing the brother of Vin Diesel’s character Dom Toretto in the newly-showcased “Fast X”. Johnson, alongside Chris Evans, is also portraying a lead character in the upcoming action-adventure film ‘Red One’.

“I got selfish, and me living WWE at the point and not having any concept of growth or someone else’s perspective, I took Dwayne’s comments as not genuine. My view was, if you love something, be there everyday. What a hypocrite I am, because I still love WWE and I can’t go all the time. And I just didn’t see that, I was so selfish,” Cena said.

In 2012 and 2013, their feud ended with two highly-viewed WrestleMania matches. In the first, Johnson was victorious while Cena was the winner in the rematch.

Although it cannot be denied that the animosity between the two greats may have attracted huge viewership for TV, Cena still has some regrets about the whole episode.

“I wanted a main event marquee match because it would better what I thought was the business. And that’s so short-sighted and selfish. It worked, but it worked at the cost of two people who communicated and almost put it in jeopardy. And there was a moment where there was a lot of bad vibes between us, and rightfully so,” he said.

Despite their earlier feud, the two wrestlers-turned actors have been able to form a strong friendship. “It was almost at the cost of our friendship, which I would like to say now is in a really good place,” Cena said.
