On Monday, Joe Biden, the president of the U.S, plans to showcase the progress made by the administration to boost the employment in trucking jobs, which is a major component in strengthening the U.S supply chains.

The White House addressed that in the afternoon remarks, Joe Biden is expected to speak about the record jobs generated for trucking in the previous year, and it is a record rise since 1994.

The U.S also had the best three months for hiring long-distance truckers since the 1990s, and for this, one of the significant contributions comes from the government's plan, which was introduced in December to boost employment in trucking.

Along with this, Biden is also expected to discuss the hardships to expedite issuing of the commercial driver's licenses needed to operate the trucks.

According to the reports from the White House, trucking jobs are now exceeding the pre-pandemic levels by a significant mark of 35,000, and states have also issued a record of more than 876,000 special licenses to ensure that the rise in trucking employment isn't hampered.

Biden's administration has also tried to diversify the trucking jobs by prioritising the military women and veterans as it is primarily male-dominated industry. And to achieve the aim of this diversification, the administration has partnered with many major veterans organisations so that they can support veterans and, along with that, ensure that there is a rise in trucking.

In the progress report presented by the White House, they said that "The trucking industry is very important for the U.S as it transports around 72 percent of the goods in America. But it got a big hit due to pandemic which further let to a low-quality job driven by the high turnover as the trucking costs almost increased by 20 percent during the same time giving a rise in the goods transported through them."

The White House also addressed that "Biden's administration has nearly doubled the apprenticeship programs by setting up seven trade associations and 100 employers to prevent fast turnover and improve retention rate in the trucking jobs, which will positively impact the entire trucking industry."

Along with this, various listening sessions are also organised with truck drivers, unions and advocates so that there are more and more discussions over how trucking jobs can be improved and also how can they become more appealing.

This entire plan is part of joint efforts of various departments like the Department of Labour, and the Department of Transport and stems from the infrastructure legislation that Congress had passed and Biden had signed last year.
