Jodie Foster’s son, Charlie, is reportedly unhappy as his mother refuses to use her Hollywood influence to boost his acting career. Despite studying drama at Yale, his roles remain limited.

Veteran Hollywood actress Jodie Foster wants her son, Charlie, to achieve success in his acting career independently. Otherwise, she believes, “it will ultimately be meaningless to him."

Her refusal to support 26-year-old Charlie's career in show business is reportedly causing serious friction in their relationship.

‘Earn success’

An insider has claimed that Jodie Foster is adamant that both her children, Charlie and his 23-year-old brother, Kit, must find their own path in life.

Charlie studied drama at his mother's alma mater, Yale University. However, his career has been limited to just two roles so far, including a 2002 guest appearance on the sitcom, The Garcias.

“Jodie told Charlie early on that she wasn't going to use her influence to boost his career. She feels that if he doesn't truly earn success, it will ultimately be meaningless to him," the source told Radar Online.

Jodie Foster’s hands-off approach

Charlie is reportedly unhappy with his mother's “hypocritical” hands-off approach, as Jodie Foster herself was launched into acting by her mother, Evelyn ‘Brandy’ Foster, at a very young age.

He believes that his grandmother guided Jodie Foster’s career by providing direction and securing opportunities — from helping her land TV roles in the 1970s to her eventual Academy Award win for The Silence of the Lambs.

"He tells his mum that’s what families do — help each other realise their dreams," the insider added.

Charlie’s frustration

It has been claimed that Charlie is "resigned to a fate" in which his career in show business may never reach the heights of his mother’s, leaving him frustrated that she refuses to intervene.
