Joc Pederson sets the stage, Josh Jung ends the show as Rangers beat Yankees

Josh Jung delivered a dramatic three-run homer in the 10th inning to lift the Texas Rangers to an 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday night, extending their home winning streak to seven games. Jung’s clutch blast came after Joc Pederson tied the game with a pinch-hit home run in the ninth.


With two outs in the 10th and Wyatt Langford intentionally walked, Jung launched a 401-foot shot to left-center off Jake Bird (4-2), marking his 11th home run of the season.



It capped off a comeback that began when Pederson, hitting just .132 and appearing in only his eighth game since returning from a hand fracture, smashed a 408-foot homer off Devin Williams to even the score at five.


Danny Coulombe (2-0), newly acquired from Minnesota at the trade deadline, pitched a scoreless 10th for his first win as a Ranger.

The Yankees jumped ahead early, with Paul Goldschmidt hitting a leadoff homer—New York’s ninth such blast this season. Goldschmidt scored three times, and Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run homer in the fourth, giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead.


All-Star lefty Max Fried, looking for his 13th win, lasted just five innings for New York. He allowed four runs on eight hits and issued a costly pickoff error that allowed a run to score. Despite striking out seven, Fried struggled with command, needing 105 pitches to navigate through five frames.

The Yankees, who were just swept in Miami, dropped their fourth straight game and now await the potential return of Aaron Judge from the injured list.
