Popular host Jimmy Kimmel has signed a one-year contract extension with Disney-owned ABC, sources said Monday, keeping him on air through mid-2027, reported AFP. The previous deal of Jimmy Kimmel Live! show was set to expire in May 2026. The renewal follows months of tension between Kimmel and the US President Donald Trump's administration, which led to his late-night show being briefly pulled from the schedule earlier in September this year. The extension signals ABC’s continued support for the longtime host despite the political controversy that erupted after the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, an incident that sparked a heated clash between the White House and Kimmel.

Jimmy, one of America’s most prominent late-night hosts, became embroiled in a major political and media uproar after remarks in his September 17, 2025 monologue about the response to conservative activist Charlie’s assassination. ABC temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live!, igniting national debates over free speech, political pressure and media independence, before Disney quickly reinstated the show amid widespread backlash.
