Jessica Pegula advances to US Open semifinals after winning over Krejcikova
American tennis icon Jessica Pegula moved to the semifinals of the 2025 US Open following a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over Barbora Krejcikova on Tuesday. This marks the second time in her career that Pegula has reached the semifinals at a Grand Slam tournament.

Pegula had struggled her first 23 main-draw appearances at crucial events before advancing to the US Open final last year, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. Since then, she faced elimination in the fourth round at the Australian Open, the third round at the French Open, and the first round at Wimbledon.

Strong Quarterfinal Performance

Pegula began the match aggressively, rapidly moving into a 3-0 lead, and maintained control in the match throughout the end. Krejcikova briefly rallied a comeback in the second set, winning two consecutive games, but finally succumbed after double faults in the final game handed Pegula the match. The contest lasted for 90 minutes, with Pegula converting her first match point attempt to establish the victory.

“I think I’ve been playing some really good tennis,” Pegula said. “I’ve just been playing very solid. I’ve been having very good quick starts, so I really wanted to do that today, especially against someone like who’s very dangerous.”

Pegula also showed on her evolution as a player:

“It’s crazy to look now and think that I’m really comfortable coming out here playing on big courts in big matches on the best court in the world with the craziest crowd against the best players,” Pegula said. “It’s pretty crazy, and it’s something 10 years ago I never thought I’d be good at this, but I guess I am.”

“It got really tight,” Pegula said. “She had a couple really good returns when I was serving at 4-1, and then we all saw what she did against Taylor, so I was happy that we’re done.”

The American credited a part of her performance to a transformation in mindset in advance to the tournament, which included a visit to an escape room and spending time with friends after a poor practice session.

Looking Ahead to the Semifinals

Pegula, seeded No. 4, will experience the winner of the quarterfinal clash between defending champion and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and unseeded Marketa Vondrousova. If Sabalenka advance, it could create a rematch of last year’s US Open final, where Pegula finished as runner-up.
