Jaylen Smith becomes youngest black mayor in US
Jaylen Smith, who is from the state of Arkansas, has become the youngest black mayor in the United States. He is 18 years old and a college student.

Smith announced his win via a Facebook post and thanked all his supporters. He stated it was time to build a "better chapter" of Earle. According to the Crittenden County Clerk's office, the vote result was 235 to 185 in favour of Smith. Frank Scott Jr, Little Rock's city leader who gave advice to Smith during his campaign, praised the victory. He said he was proud of Smith's willingness to serve the public "at such a young age."
The newly-elected mayor has promised to repair the city's drainage system, improve the police force, address abandoned houses and improve community involvement. He has also vowed to bring a prominent grocery store to the community, as the last one was shut down a few years back.
Smith has served as president of the student government association of the school. He also plans to continue his studies while fulfilling his mayoral duties.
