Jay-Z files an explosive lawsuit, sues ex-accuser and Tony Buzbee over extortionate threats that allegedly cost him $20 million

Jay-Z has filed a defamation lawsuit against his former accuser and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, for extortion and vilification, claiming they intentionally planted false charges against him.

He has suffered from emotional distress, embarrassment, harassment, and out-of-pocket losses as a result of the ongoing legal battle.

Jay-Z alleges that the defendants, which also include attorney David Fortney, "were soullessly motivated by greed, in abject disregard of the truth and the most fundamental precepts of human decency," in a complaint obtained by Page Six.

What are the claims against Tony Buzbee?

The former accuser Jane Doe has "voluntarily admitted" that Buzbee "pushed her towards going forward with the false story against Mr. Carter" after an "extortionate demand letter failed to yield the financial windfall," according to court documents filed by Jay-Z, who is suing for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy, and defamation, as per a report by Page Six.

According to the court filing, Doe allegedly acknowledged that "Tony Buzbee brought Jay-Z into it."

In December 2024, Doe appeared on NBC News and claimed in an unidentified on-camera interview that the "Can I Get A..." rapper had sexually assaulted her in 2000 during an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in New York.

It is now alleged in Jay-Z's complaint, however, that Buzbee first met Doe "at a coffee shop in Houston on the day of her maliciously false NBC News interview."

Jay-Z has strongly refuted the accusations since they were made public, claiming he was the target of a "blackmail attempt."

In December 2024, he issued a statement saying, "I have seen your kind many times over, Mr. Buzbee, but I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human."

According to public records referenced in the complaint, Doe had mental health problems, which Jay-Z claims should "cast doubt on her credibility." According to the filing, Doe's attorneys persisted in trying to conceal this fact after she made her admissions, including by making more extortionate demands and threats.

The lawyers for Jay-Z claim that Buzbee and his group have persisted in threatening the "Forever Young" rapper, claiming that the Texas-based attorney would publicly declare that Doe was being harassed by Mr. Carter's "people" since she withdrawn the lawsuit.
