Jay Blades accused of manipulating behavior towards his estranged wife

Jay Blades rose to fame in television in 2017 with the debut of The Repair Shop. The host of the BBC show The Repair Shop, Jay Blades, has been accused of abusing his controlling and coercive relationship with his estranged wife. The host made an appearance at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Friday to answer a single charge.

West Mercia Police stated that following a call on May 3, they opened an investigation. On the same day, Lisa Zbozen, the spouse of Mr. Blades, announced on Instagram that their 18-month marriage had ended. The police issued the following statement: Jason Blades, 54, of Claverley, Wolverhampton, has been accused of using coercive and controlling behavior. He appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court this morning (Friday 13th September) and has been bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday 11th October, as quoted in a report by the BBC.

Following the 2017 launch of The Repair Shop, where viewers could bring in their cherished items and heirlooms to be repaired, Mr. Blades rose to prominence as one of the most recognizable faces on British television. It started in a daytime slot and, as it gained popularity, was moved to primetime. In 2023, the program received a National Television Award and a Bafta for its royal special, in which the future King visited the workshop with a clock and a vase. The Repair Shop aired Mr. Blades' most recent episode on Wednesday. In 2022, he fronted a documentary about learning to read at the age of 51. He has also hosted Money for Nothing, Jay Blades' Home Fix, and Jay and Dom's Home Fix. In 2021, he received an MBE as a mark of honor.

Filming on the upcoming season of The Repair Shop started in early May without him, as he announced he was taking a break to take stock after his uncle's alleged murder. In response to the news of Mr. Blades' court appearance, the BBC canceled a rerun of an episode of David & Jay's Touring Toolshed that aired on BBC One on Friday and featured Mr. Blades alongside actor David Jason. A repeat of Garden Rescue has taken its place instead.
It would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings, as stated by a BBC spokesperson. Buckinghamshire New University announced that he had resigned as chancellor with immediate effect.
