Camp arrival expected

Jauan Jennings is still anticipated to show up when the San Francisco 49ers' veterans report for training camp next week—even if contract talks remain unresolved.

He wants more

After a breakout 2024 season—77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns—Jennings believes his current deal, which pays $7.5 million this season, doesn’t reflect his value.

Contract or trade

He’s made it clear: he wants a new contract or he’ll request a trade if nothing is settled by camp time.

He’s not going quietly

Like last year’s situation with Brandon Aiyuk, Jennings likely will report but won’t necessarily practice—a “hold-in” to avoid fines while making a stand.

Why the push matters

Beyond the raw numbers, Jennings brings extra value: he’s a fierce run blocker, adaptable in multiple receiver roles, and has proven dependable with 49ers QB Brock Purdy.

Why this matters

Jennings was a key performer last year, stepping up when teammates got injured. His hunger for a better deal reflects not just personal ambition—but also the team’s changing receiver landscape. With Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from injury and Deebo Samuel no longer on the roster, keeping Jennings happy is now more important than ever .

That said, the 49ers know they’re holding solid ground: Jennings is under contract, and the team already managed a similar standoff with Aiyuk last summer. So far, there’s mutual leverage on both sides. It’s very possible the 49ers will rework the deal to keep a proven weapon in-house.

Bottom line

Expect Jennings at camp—but don’t expect fireworks, at least not yet. He’s in the perfect position to negotiate, and although the 49ers might push back, they’d rather pay him than lose him—especially given how much he offered last season.
