Jason Momoa warns holidayers to stay away from Maui, urges to donate for Wildfire Relief
Aquaman actor Jason Momoa has shared a special message on social media, asking travelers to not go to Maui in Hawaii due to the wildfire.

Taking to Instagram on August 11, Jason Momoa wrote, "Maui is not the place to have your vacation right now. Do not travel to Maui. Do not convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island that is suffering this deeply. Mahalo to everyone who has donated and shown aloha to the community in this time of need."

Jason Momoa’s Hawaiian roots
Jason Momoa is a native Hawaiian, born in Honolulu. He grew up in Norwalk, Iowa, and returned to study at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
The Fast X actor also informed people that cheap flights are coming to the aid of wildfire victims to evacuate off-island, and local hotels are prioritizing those who have been displaced rather than tourists.
"Our community needs time to heal, grieve and restore. That means the less visitors on island taking up critical resources that have become extremely limited the better,” Momoa wrote
The actor also asked travelers and other people to donate to the relief efforts instead.
Momoa wrote on Instagram earlier, “We are devastated and heartbroken for our friends and ‘ohana on Maui. Link in our bio for organizations that are helping.”
He also reposted photos from the organization ‘Āina Momona’, showing the destruction on the island.
The organization wrote on Instagram, “On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, a terrible combination of drought conditions and hurricane weather led to widespread wildfires across the island of Maui. Lahaina town is gone. Families were forced to evacuate on short notice, many escaping with only the clothes on their backs.”
“The fires drove people to jump into the ocean to escape flames and smoke and forced people to evacuate,” the post read.
As of August 13, at least 93 people have died in the Maui wildfire and more than 1,300 people displaced. Nearly 11,000 people have no electricity in their homes.
The repost of Momoa lists several organizations for people to donate to, including the ActBlue Emergency Fundraiser for Maui Fire, the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, and the Kāko’o Haleakala.
Jason Momoa also reposted an Instagram story of a Maui Mutual Aid Resource Guide posted by @hiprogressiveaction, Hawaii Alliance for Progressive Action.
