Formerly known as Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, Joji is one of the most successful Japanese musicians of the modern era, considered by many as the 'Epitome of Odd'. He made his professional music debut with the 2017 single 'Will He', followed by two albums – 'Ballads 1' (2018) and 'Nectar' (2020).

‘Smithereens’ will be Joji’s third album and the first since 2020. While the uniquely odd musician has a solid fanbase, many pointed out that Joji was not looking much enthusiastic about performing. However, during a live performance in April, Joji informed his fans that he was struggling with underlying health issues, which is why they saw a dip in his performance.
