Japanese father throws 2 young daughters from the sixth-floor balcony, moment caught on camera; here’s what happened next

A Japanese man was arrested after he allegedly threw his two young daughters off a balcony of his apartment located on the sixth floor of a building in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, according to Japanese news outlets. The 25-year-old father, identified as Tomokazu Miura, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

The two victims, a 4-year-old and 1-year-old, were conscious when they were rushed to hospital, and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, as reported by Japan Today and Nagoya TV News. The incident occurred on Saturday morning (September 26, 2026) at around 4:20 a.m., hours after police received an emergency call from Miura's wife at around 11:30 p.m. Friday (September 25, 2026). Miura's wife told police that her husband had forcefully grabbed her arm during an argument, news outlets reported.

According to the police, Miura lives in the same apartment with his wife and two daughters. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to Miura's wife from outside the apartment as Miura denied them entry and remained barricaded inside the apartment. According to Japan Today, police were quick to anticipate a potential emergency and laid out mats on the ground.


As police entered into the apartment, Miura threw the two children from the balcony, and they landed on the mats. According to police, Miura, who was taken into custody, remained silent during questioning.

Incident caught on camera

The entire incident was caught on nearby security cameras in the area, showing the exact moment the two kids were dropped from the balcony. The video footage released by CBC Television News and Nagoya TV News shows two blurry objects plunging from the balcony.



The incident was reportedly witnessed by a nearby resident who claimed to have seen police take Miura away. They said that the father said that “he intended to die with them,” as quoted by Nagoya TV News.
