Donald Trump supervised a "multiple-part conspiracy" to manipulate the results of the 2020 presidential election and destabilize American democracy, according to the House committee’s final report published after looking into the incident on January 6 of last year.
The massive 845-page report outlined a disturbing account of Trump's illegal attempt to ignore the will of the American people and reverse his loss to President Joe Biden in order to retain power. It was released after the committee interrogated more than 1,000 witnesses, collected more than a million documents, and held 10 destructive public hearings.
The report puts the former president responsible squarely for invading Congress on January 6, 2021. Additionally, it suggests preventing Trump from holding future public office. He refused to cooperate with the panel, and following the release of the final report, he called it a "witch hunt."
The group, which was made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans, recommended on Monday that the justice department should look into Trump, who is running for president once again, for three more criminal offences as well as for encouraging an insurgency.
