US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has claimed that even if markets are in the red and Americans are dealing with rising inflation, a recession is not imminent. She cites low unemployment as a key factor.

Yellen told CNN on Thursday, "We're at a full employment economy. It makes perfect sense for growth to slow down. And it did during the year's first three quarters, but it is still OK. The labour market here is highly robust. At this time, she doesn't see any indications of an economic recession."

Yellen also acknowledged the suffering brought on by inflation. She told CNN that it is an unacceptable level, and Americans experience that every day. She continued by saying that initiatives to reduce that suffering and lower inflation will probably last for the next number of years.

Yellen also noted that the US economy continues to be stronger than the economies of many other nations, once again citing the nation's low unemployment rate. The United States stands out among the many economies in the world that are severely suffering from both high inflation and very dismal economic performance. Our unemployment rate is at a 50-year low.
