Janet Jackson bonds with ‘Today’ show host superfan Sheinelle Jones

On Friday, when the “Rhythm Nation” artist was on the NBC morning show, Sheinelle Jones happened to live her dream. Jones of “Today” show is a superfan of Janet Jackson who is introduced as probably the “best Janet Jackson impersonator” so far. So when Jones found Jackson quietly talking with a host lineup of six-person on the show, she grabbed the opportunity to tell her idol her deepest thoughts.

When Jones walked over to the international superstar, co-host Dylan Dreyer made jest telling Sheinelle not to “get weird.” This comment came following co-host Melvin’s joke about Jones joining the tour with Jackson. However, this followed with Jackson sincerely saying that Sheinelle should join her by adding a note that she had been searching for someone to dance with her on one or two songs.

Jones replied to Dreyer that she was not “going to get weird”. It was then that her true feelings came out.



The 44-year-old Jones told Jackson, 56 that she was “surrounded by excellence” growing up in Wichita, kan. She had gravitated toward entertainment and TV because of the excellence in the family and her community.

She explained to Jackson why the artist was “so important” to her. She said that four decades ago, she didn’t see “people who looked like” her on TV, and whoever she saw on TV, she wanted to be like them. But then she saw Jackson: beautiful, fierce, funky, vulnerable, and the artist “could dance, like, all the things.”

When Jones kept saying, Jackson had a big smile on her face.
