US Para hockey team dominates Canada 6-1 to reclaim world title, powered by Jack Wallace’s hat trick and Griffin LaMarre’s stellar goaltending

In a commanding performance on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the US Para ice hockey team defeated Canada 6–1 to capture the World Para Ice Hockey Championship in Buffalo, New York.

This victory marks the United States' seventh world title in the last decade and serves as a strong statement of intent ahead of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Paralympic Games.

The US team, led by head coach David Hoff, delivered a dominant performance from start to finish. "Obviously, our start was very good," Hoff remarked. "We sustained that momentum throughout the game and never let our foot off the pedal. We were very tough to play against for three periods."

Defenseman Jack Wallace was the standout player

Defenseman Jack Wallace was the standout player of the final, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist. His three goals made him only the second American to achieve a hat trick in a World Para Ice Hockey Championship final, joining Taylor Lipsett, who accomplished the feat in 2012.

Wallace's performance was especially poignant, as he had narrowly missed making the 2024 US Paralympic canoe team before returning to Para ice hockey.

Veteran forward Declan Farmer, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, contributed a goal and an assist in the final. Farmer's leadership and skill were instrumental throughout the tournament, where he led all players with 18 points.

Goaltender Griffin LaMarre, stepping into the starting role after previously serving as the backup, made 10 saves on 11 shots, providing a steady presence in net. His performance was a testament to his preparation and resilience.

The US team's victory also highlighted their dominance in the sport, as they became the first nation to sweep the IIHF men's, IIHF women's, and Para ice hockey world titles in a single year.

Looking ahead, the US Para ice hockey team is poised to defend its gold medal at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Paralympic Games, building on the momentum from this world championship triumph.
