J.J. Spaun has openly acknowledged the influence of his wife, Melody Spaun, throughout his time on the PGA Tour. The golfer credits Melody for helping him maintain a balance between his professional obligations and family commitments. In a January 6, 2023, media session, Spaun spoke about the couple’s agreement limiting his daily practice time to five hours.

"It’s going to be hard (the practice limit)," Spaun said, as quoted by Golf.com's Nick Piastowski. "She said, 'Well, yeah, if you start missing some cuts, we can adjust; we can add a couple hours there.' These are the conversations I have. I’m not even joking. I mean, this is how, our marriage, we don’t, you know, it doesn’t get too sideways. Happy wife, happy life."

Spaun also noted that the practice rule was designed to ensure he had enough time at home with the couple’s two children: Emerson Lili and Violet Windsor. The balance between his career on the PGA Tour and his role at home has been a consistent part of Spaun’s public comments.

"Happy Valentine’s Day to my laundrywoman, barista, travel agent, #1 supporter, and fiancée," Spaun wrote in an Instagram post. "Life would be too hard without you!"

The couple was married on July 12, 2019, and since then Spaun has continued to share tributes that emphasize Melody’s role in their household. On May 9, 2021, he posted a message for Mother’s Day.

"Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the world!" Spaun stated in the post. "Thank you for all you do for our little family. Miss you tons."
