It's finally official! Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson split after 10 years of marriage

Jessica Simpson, 44, and her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson, 45, have confirmed they have split and are living separately after 10 years of marriage. The singer and businesswoman and the retired NFL star have three children together.

In a statement to People magazine, Simpson said, "Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

The news comes shortly after Simpson posted a light hearted selfie on Instagram, telling her followers, "Life is short. SMILE while you still have teeth."

Reports indicate that Johnson was seen without his wedding ring in November, which coincided with Simpson sharing a cryptic post about her return to music. She posted photos from a recording studio, writing, "Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve."

A source later told People that Simpson and Johnson are "very much living separate lives."

The couple married in July 2014 after four years of dating. They have three children: daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11. They first met in 2010 through a mutual friend, got engaged that November, and married in a ceremony in Montecito, California, with their two older children serving as the ring bearer and flower girl.

Jessica Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006. Their reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, aired from 2003 to 2006 and played a big role in boosting their public profiles. The show also highlighted the difficulties in their marriage, which ended around the same time as their divorce.

Eric Johnson was also married before, to Keri D'Angelo. They were married from 2005 until their split in 2010.
