Karefa-Johnson compared Israel to an "apartheid state" and accused it of committing "genocide.”
These comments have ignited a heated discussion within the fashion community and beyond.
Karefa-Johnson, known for her styling work with prominent figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and singer Selena Gomez, expressed her strong opinions following a tragic incident involving Hamas terrorists, who claimed numerous lives and took hostages in Israel.
Vogue and its parent company, Condé Nast have issued a statement where it distances itself from Johnson's view and clarified that she was not a full time employee of the magazine.
She also questioned those supporting Israel while ongoing strikes continue to impact Gaza, especially in light of Hamas' refusal to release hostages.
Karefa-Johnson also posted an exchange between her and former French Vogue stylist Celia Azoulay, where the former asks Johnson “show the same compassion with Israeli civilians getting murdered.”
Karefa-Johnson slammed Azoulay by saying that the number of Palestinians in rehabilitation is far more than the Israeli victims.
