Rumors have been swirling online that Roblox will shut down on September 1, sparking panic among millions of players worldwide. The speculation gained traction after a viral post on X claimed the gaming platform was closing amid mounting criticism over child safety concerns. While the shutdown chatter is unfounded, the company is facing real scrutiny after lawsuits accused it of failing to adequately protect minors.

An account called Roblox Notifier posted an 'official announcement' on X, claiming that the game would permanently shut down on September 1. "After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently shut down our platform. This decision comes as a direct response to overwhelming popular demand, alongside growing concerns about safety and security."

Although the post appeared official, Roblox itself has made no such announcement, and the platform continues to operate normally. In fact, the account behind the claim is a parody profile, with its bio clearly stating, 'most posts are just goofs with some exceptions'.

Adding to the improbability of the rumor, Roblox’s verified X account remains active, sharing regular updates with the last post coming on August 19.

The rumor gained traction amid real legal scrutiny, including a high-profile lawsuit filed by Louisiana’s attorney general Liz Murrill for alleged safety failures.

“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said in a news release. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”

According to the Associated Press, Roblox has come under fire in recent months over child safety concerns, facing lawsuits and criticism for allegedly failing to protect young users on its platform. In one alarming case last month, a lawsuit was filed in Iowa after a 13-year-old girl was reportedly lured by an adult predator through Roblox. Authorities say she was then kidnapped, trafficked across multiple states, and sexually assaulted.

Despite mounting criticism and ongoing legal challenges, Roblox has neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the viral X post. However, the platform remains fully operational and has introduced several safety upgrades in recent months - making the shutdown rumors baseless.
