Is Pretty Little Liars Season 3 reboot cancelled? Here’s what we know

The series, originally titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin for its first season, premiered on July 28, 2022, and was quickly renewed for a second season following its finale.

In a disappointing turn of events for fans, the reboot of Pretty Little Liars will not be returning for a third season on Max. Originally premiering as PLL: Original Sin in July 2022, the series rebranded to PLL: Summer School for its second season, which aired in May 2023.

The cancellation was officially announced by Max on Friday.

Creative Team

In its statement regarding the cancellation, Max expressed gratitude towards co-creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, along with the entire team at Warner Bros. Television.

The statement highlighted their efforts in reintroducing viewers to a new generation of characters navigating the trials of Millwood.

“Their unique and modern creative vision — combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew — gave the series a fun, horror-filled point of view that paid tribute to its original Rosewood roots,” the streaming service noted, as per a report by The Wrap.

The Cast and Characters

The reboot featured a talented cast that included Bailee Madison, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, and Chandler Kinney, who portrayed the titular group of liars. Additional cast members included Sharon Leal, Alex Aiono, and Annabeth Gish, among others.

This latest iteration was the fourth television installment inspired by the popular book series, following the original Pretty Little Liars, which aired from 2010 to 2017, and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, which had a single season in 2019. Additionally, the supernatural spinoff Ravenswood aired one season in 2013.

The reboot was executive produced by a talented team including Aguirre-Sacasa, Calhoon Bring, and original series showrunner Marlene King. Other producers included Gina Girolamo, Leslie Morgenstein, Caroline Baron, Michael Grassi, Jimmy Gibbons, Jenina Kibuka, Amy Myrold, and Sean Fogel. The series was developed under the banners of Warner Bros. Television, Muckle Man Productions, and Alloy Entertainment, showcasing a robust production framework.
