It appears that former First Lady Michelle Obama is reluctant to support Joe Biden in his re-election campaign. Axios reported that she has been unhappy with the Biden Family for the way the manner in which they treated Kathleen Buhle, her close friend. Buhle is Hunter Biden’s ex-wife and the couple obtained a divorce in 2017. She has expressed her disappointment in private and has largely stayed away from the political campaign ahead of the US Presidential Election in 2024. It has also been suggested that she is not interested in politics and has hence, stayed away. This has been reported by the New York Post.

Friendship with Buhle:

The former First Lady’s friendship with Buhle can be tracked back to the days of Obama administration. The incumbent President Joe Biden was serving as the Vice-President during this period from 2009-2017 when Barack Obama was the US President.

Hunter Biden in his memoir also noted that his ex-wife and the first lady had become friends when they worked out together in a gym. The two often had cocktails at the White House during both formal and informal meetings. It is also believed that Buhle found support from Michelle Obama during her divorce proceedings with Hunter Biden.

Michelle’s disappointment:

Hunter Biden and Kathleen Buhle secured a divorce in 2017 after being married to each other for 22- years. It emerged that Hunter Biden was addicted to drugs and was cheating on his wife. Michelle had expressed her disappointment in private after these details emerged regarding the way her friend was treated. The Biden family has been severely criticised after a federal court convicted Hunter Biden for violating federal gun laws.

What did the White House say?

A spokesperson denied that there is a rift between the Bidens and the Obamas. It was pointed out that the two families are close to each other and the Obamas continue to support President Biden in his ongoing campaign against Trump.

Another spokesperson for the former First Lady pointed out that she enjoined a great relationship with the Bidens as well as Kathleen. She has not been seen in any recent political campaign.
