Is McDonald's $8 nugget meal worth it? Here's what customers say
McDonald's new eight dollar McNugget meal is facing criticism online. Customers are complaining about the price, quality, and service. This comes as the fast food giant tries to regain its image of affordability. Recent price hikes have impacted m...

Earlier this month, the chain rolled out a limited-time $8 10-piece Chicken McNugget value meal for November, hoping to reconnect with diners frustrated by rising menu costs. But instead of applause, the offer was met with a wave of criticism online, as per a report by Fortune.

Why did the $8 McNugget meal trigger backlash?
Under McDonald’s Nov. 14 X post advertising the promotion, users quickly voiced disappointment. Many vowed to avoid the chain altogether, citing inflation, declining quality, and even long drive-through wait times. One commenter asked, “Since when is $8 a good price for 10 little nuggets, a hand full of fries and a drink?”McDonald’s responded to multiple complaints directly on X, asking frustrated customers to send their information through direct messages so the company could follow up. But the negative comments kept coming, and the post racked up hundreds of critical replies, as per a report by Fortune.
The timing of the backlash has been especially awkward for the company. McDonald’s CEO acknowledged earlier this year that combo meals had become “too expensive,” paving the way for more discounted offerings. The $8 nugget meal was part of that push, but online, consumers didn’t seem convinced, as per a report by Fortune.

How is McDonald’s explaining rising menu prices?
The company has spent much of the last year battling criticism that its prices have surged dramatically since 2019. House Republicans even posted on X claiming that, under then-President Joe Biden, a medium fries jumped 167.6% and a Big Mac meal rose 103.5%, as per a report by Fortune.

Despite those explanations, many customers remain unconvinced. An $18 Big Mac combo that went viral in 2023 drew widespread anger and prompted McDonald’s USA president, Joe Erlinger, to call the example an “exception.”

Is affordability still shaping customer perception?
Kempczinski noted that low-income customer traffic in the first quarter fell by “nearly double digits,” with middle-income diners dropping almost as much. He said those groups “in particular, are being weighted down by the cumulative impact of inflation and heightened anxiety about the economic outlook.”
Yet despite the criticism, the company is still showing growth. In the third quarter, global comparable sales jumped 3.6%, and U.S. sales rose 2.4%, as per a report by Fortune.
“We’re fueling momentum by delivering everyday value and affordability, menu innovation, and compelling marketing that continue to bring customers through our doors,” Kempczinski said in the earnings release.
