Idaho Republicans reject amendment allowing abortion to save mother's life

Idaho Republicans have rejected an amendment, which would have allowed an exception for having abortion if there is a fatal danger to the mother's life. This came after the Idaho GOP convention delegates supported amendments to the party platform that would have made abortions illegal, except in circumstances of incest or rape. This has been done to preserve the mother's life, according to reports.

The votes were 412-164 in favour of rejecting the amendment.

The platform confirms that abortion is considered murder from the time of fertilisation and that the child should be protected regardless of the circumstances of conception. It includes children conceived due to incest or rape.


Herndon, a Republican running unchallenged for the Senate in Idaho, claims that the last 49 years have been a losing struggle since the emphasis has been on ending a mother's pregnancy rather than ending the life of a living person.

Herndon also stated that it is in a doctor's oath to do no harm in such situations, and giving priority to exceptions would mean giving preference to one patient over the other. He stated that he thinks this is the greatest human rights issue of our time, and we will never win it if we allow the intentional killing of a human being.

There was approval from the delegation to remove criminal penalties for miscarriages, and his proposal included comments on the updates on the abortion section and addressed the apex court of the United States.
