Erika Kirk Air Force Academy: Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has been appointed by US president Donald Trump to serve on the US Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, taking on a role previously held by her late husband, as per reports.

Trump Appoints Erika Kirk to US Air Force Academy Board

Charlie Kirk had been selected by Trump to serve on the board last year and attended a meeting before he was assassinated in September, as per a Fox News report. He was shot and killed on September 10 during a college event in Orem, Utah.

Erika Kirk Takes Leadership at Turning Point USA

Following his death, Erika Kirk assumed leadership of Turning Point USA as its CEO and board chair, as per a Gazette.com report. The organization says it has more than 800 chapters on college campuses nationwide and has hosted events such as an alternative halftime show during the Super Bowl featuring Kid Rock, as per the report.

What the Air Force Academy Board of Visitors Does

As a member of the Board of Visitors, Erika Kirk joins 15 other members responsible for reviewing conditions at the academy and making recommendations to the Secretary of Defense. The board examines areas such as morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, equipment, fiscal matters, and academic methods.

The group includes several lawmakers, including Jeff Crank of Colorado Springs, Tommy Tuberville, and chairman August Pfluger, who is also a graduate of the academy.

Lawmaker Says Erika Kirk Will Continue Charlie Kirk’s Legacy

Pfluger told KOAA that, "Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy," adding, "I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy," as quoted by Fox News.

Appointment Appears on Official Board List

Although the board did not formally announce the appointment, Erika Kirk’s name now appears on the official list of members.

Charlie Kirk’s Focus During His Time on the Board

During his short time on the board, Charlie Kirk spoke about construction delays at the academy’s chapel and urged leaders to emphasize what sets the United States apart. At an August meeting, he said it was important for cadets to understand that the country is “the greatest nation ever,” as per the Gazette.com report.
