Is Musk in trouble due to latest SEC investigations?
It has been quite a long time since Elon Musk acquired Twitter and replaced the name of the iconic social media app as 'X'. But now, a recent report has revealed that the Tesla CEO has been accused of committing securities fraud by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). A lawsuit has already been filed in federal court in this regard, that claims Musk did not publicly share that he had amassed a 5% stake in the company prior to his full takeover.

Due to the alleged 'hiding' of this stake, it allowed him to save a minimum of $150 million, the brunt of which was faced by then Twitter shareholders by failing to timely file the beneficial ownership report. The SEC is also alleging that Musk did not comply with the deadline to file the beneficial ownership report, and waited for 11 days until doing so, which posed a major problem for the Twitter stakeholders from back then. This, the SEC feels, is a crucial aspect of securities fraud which they are currently investigating and have presented evidence of the same in federal court.

This allegation by the SEC also says that this activity of Musk, who later on became the CEO of Twitter and replaced its brand name, caused investors significant economic harm when these stocks were sold. Therefore, the SEC is demanding in federal court that Musk must pay a civil penalty for this gross violation of set rules in place.
