US Secretary of State Marco Rubio meets with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele
The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly and recently announced an unprecedented migration deal with El Salvador where the country has now eventually agreed to accept deportees of any nationality while including violent criminals, reported CNN.

According to CNN, the Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele actually proposed housing even the US criminals in the prisons of his country specifically in the latest CECOT mega prison with a 40,000 person capacity whereas in exchange for a fee that would sustain their prison system for a long time.

The agreement which is a part of the US President Donald Trump administration's aggressive immigration policy now allows El Salvador to accept illegal immigrants and criminals from the US which will be including members of gangs like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua as well, asserted CNN. While US Secretary of State Rubio described it as an ‘act of extraordinary friendship’, at the same time, legal experts and human rights organizations have raised significant and severe concerns about the legality of the deal and obviously potential human rights violations.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele who has been quite recently credited with reducing gang violence through a massive crackdown that jailed over 81,000 people now eventually sees this as an opportunity to make his prison system financially sustainable, noted CNN. However, during such ongoing times, numerous critics have put forward an argument that the arrangement could be part of a broader trend of democratic backsliding and inhumane treatment of migrants.
