Is Apple redesigning the iPhone 17 Pro Max? Leaked renders suggest a major change

Newly leaked renders of the iPhone 17 Pro Max reveal a striking camera bar design, but questions linger over their credibility due to unverified sources and design feasibility.

New renders of the iPhone 17 Pro Max have surfaced online, featuring a large camera bar. According to the leaked images, the camera bar spans the entire width of the handset.

But a report noted that the source behind the leaks has a history of inaccuracies, raising questions about the credibility of the design.

The report states that these renders were created by artist Asher Dipprey and leaked by Jon Prosser, who claimed to have seen the real device. But another leaker, Majin Bu, had released similar designs weeks before Prosser.

Both individuals have a long history of making inaccurate Apple predictions, according to Apple Insider.

A practical design choice or mere speculation?

Apple has consistently pushed the boundaries of camera technology. But size constraints may necessitate design modifications. Apple Insider suggested that a full-width camera bar — similar to Google’s Pixel design — could allow for more advanced components.

But the renders depict an impractically large and elevated camera bar that protrudes significantly beyond the current camera bump. This design could increase the risk of accidental damage and make the device less stable when placed on flat surfaces.

While Prosser speculates that Apple may adopt this design purely to make the iPhone look distinct, the report deems this notion unlikely. Any significant redesign would likely have a functional purpose, such as accommodating new camera technology.

Unreliable sources cast doubt

Both Prosser and Bu have a track record of inaccurate claims. Prosser previously said that Apple would introduce a flush-camera iPhone 4-style design and a flat-sided Apple Watch, neither of which materialised. Bu, on the other hand, has been known to repost unverified rumours from Chinese social media rather than presenting credible information.

The fact that two unreliable leakers have presented the same design could suggest they were misled by false information or that they stumbled upon something genuine.

Until Apple officially unveils the iPhone 17 lineup in the autumn, speculation will persist, Apple Insider reported.

Given the sources involved and the impracticality of the design, this leak currently lacks credibility. However, if more reputable insiders corroborate similar details in the coming months, the assessment may change.

FAQs

1. Is Apple really adding a camera bar to the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
There is no confirmed information. The leak originates from unreliable sources, making it uncertain whether Apple will adopt this design.

2. Why would Apple consider a camera bar design?
If implemented, it would likely be to accommodate additional camera components. But Apple has already developed advanced camera technology without requiring such a design.
