Erika Kirk’s reaction to Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral victory has sparked conversation, largely because of the way she framed the political moment as 'ironic'. In her view, the outcome of the election underscores what she sees as a growing dependence on government support among women in New York.
Kirk voiced concern about the number of women supporting Mamdani’s mayoral campaign, saying she worries New York City women are beginning to view the government as a 'substitute' for marriage and raising children.

Speaking at the New York Times DealBook Summit 2025, the Turning Point USA CEO remarked that it was 'so ironic' that Mamdani’s voter base was predominantly female. Kirk, who frequently comments on women’s issues, framed Mamdani’s victory as a signal of broader cultural and economic changes in the city.

“I think there’s a tendency, especially when you live in a city like Manhattan, where again, you are so career driven,” Kirk shared, “and you almost look to the government as a form of replacement for certain things - relationship-wise even.”

“What I don’t want to have happen is women, young women in the city, look to the government as a solution to put off having a family or a marriage because you’re relying on the government to support you instead of being united with a husband,” Kirk further said.

However, Kirk emphasized that she was not suggesting women should rely exclusively on their husbands, noting instead that 'you guys can all combine together' to build stable households and communities. Her remarks quickly drew widespread attention online, where many users pushed back and defended Mamdani’s platform as supportive of women’s economic and social interests.
